FAQs

What is a virtual world?

A virtual world is a computer-based simulated environment intended for its users to inhabit and interact via avatars. Virtual worlds have been around for decades, though the combination of broadband ubiquity and powerful PC's has changed the game. In virtual worlds, anything is possible. The unattainable is unknown!

Is there more than one virtual world?

Yes. There are many virtual worlds. Some are more developed than others and each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Which virtual worlds will 2BeVirtual work in?

If the project makes sense, we'll work anywhere. We are a virtual worlds company and are truly platform agnostic. With that said, we find ourselves most commonly working in Second Life or There.com. We are also currently exploring new virtual world platforms such as Multiverse. We would be glad to consult with your firm to determine which virtual world is right for you.

What is Second Life?

Second Life is a 3D digital world imagined, created and owned by its residents. We believe that Second Life is the most heavily trafficked, open-ended virtual world in existence. Second Life is the virtual world we most commonly work in.

Are there marketing opportunities for my brand in a Virtual World?

The 3D nature of the virtual world allows corporations to accomplish many marketing goals that are not achievable, or ideally suited for other mediums.

For media companies, virtual worlds offer the ability for fans to interact on an intimate basis and literally share experiences in real time. These factors can allow media companies to strengthen or build communities and to significantly extend the amount of time fans spend with your brand.

As corporate work environments become increasingly distributed, virtual worlds can be a cost effective medium to bring your employees, partners or customers together. With this in mind, corporations have used virtual worlds to conduct employee, partner or customer training.

The fast development cycles and extremely high quality three-dimensional modeling tools offered by some virtual worlds have allowed many firms to use virtual worlds as an R&D lab of sorts. We can help you tweak product esthetics, real-estate layouts or even conduct in-world virtual panel research or product trials. Virtual worlds represent a game changing testing ground.

Just as corporations have evolved product branding and marketing on mediums spanning from print to the web, they are evolving the marketing process in three-dimensional virtual worlds. Taking advantage of the immersive environment, corporations are able to create lasting impressions and some cases, extremely valuable "virtual customers". Virtual worlds offer the branding and product placement opportunities of television and the measurability of the web.
